First of all, there is no shop to buy the SIM card in...
First of all, there is no shop to buy the SIM card in Sandakan Airport, the nearest place is 7/11 which is in 5 min by taxi. Next stage of the quest is that you will need to ask someone to share the Wi-Fi with you since you must register your SIM card by yourself online. Perhaps, buying the SIM card in Kota Kinabalu will be the best option. If you are going to Sukau area, do not consider buying U Mobile SIM card - it will not work there completely. I would not recommend to have a food at any of restaurants at the seafront: meals will be overpriced and in most of the cases not even edible. Tours to Bornean bear and orangutan parks will be at least 3x cheaper for you than suggested by TripAdvisor if you will just use Grab taxi to reach it: both parks are located at the same place. Firefly tour is also costly and not really impressive: do not expect to see too much, if you cannot resist to go there. Pasir Putih Beach could be nice place if the beach was visible under the layers of garbage. Don't recommend to waste your time for it. There are a lot of beggar kids at the central area. I don't know if they can steal anything, but I guess it makes sense to be careful.

Sandakan is not a city brimming with character and charm. It is OK and you can find a small number of nice enough places to eat and drink, if you set your mind to it. I would not want to have stayed there more than one day and I won’t be going back anytime soon.

It’s my home town and I have lots of fond memories. Fresh seafood paradise and amazing mixed cuisine with traditional Chinese, Malaysian food and Indian dishes. Shopping just in front at 50 meters and some nice restaurants next to the see. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We used this hotel three times: before, in between and after our 3day trips on the Eastern part of Sabah. Kids loved it, as McDonalds is just three big jumps away.
